2018 Awards Night: MacKenzie Engel Receives Student of the Year Award

This Award Sponsored by Springville Times

MacKenzie Engel was nominated by Springville-Griffith Institute Central School District for our Student of the Year award. Described as a capable, compassionate, thoughtful and inquisitive student, MacKenzie is an aspiring artist.

She demonstrates a commitment to making SGI a better place for students, faculty and staff. She donated part of her summer break to paint the high school cafeteria hallway, using her creative talents to create art that will be enjoyed for years to come.

MacKenzie was also involved with developing a new seal for the village of Springville. She patiently worked with village officials to persevere and to create a seal that reflects our community and will be used with pride and purpose.

MacKenzie’s family owns Shamel Milling Company in East Concord, and she has grown up seeing the ins and outs of a successful, local, small business.

She anticipates pursuing an art education degree, while creating commissioned art pieces to stay in touch with her entrepreneurial roots.

“It is very refreshing to see a young woman who has the respect for the history of our community and the desire to preserve it in her own, small way. “
